On the 17th of September 2017, I was invited to the Reasons To – Disability Triathlon by event organisers Jo Shallcross and Tracey Sample. I originally met Jo at the North East Disability Awards at Slaley Hall on the 23rd of March 2017.
This was a great event to get involved with, watching so many inspiring children swimming in the pool. Later on I was given the great honour of starting the athletes off on the bike part of the triathlon, I moved to the end of the course to high five the athletes as they competed the course, there was a whole variety of abilities competing at this event, you never know we could have a future budding Paralympian.
It was great to see Andrew Skelton from the SOS Groups, supporting this event, by donating all the athletes taking part with a swimming cap and bottle. Also supporting this event was Andy Sixsmith, who was videoing the event.
Then I presented to medals to all the athletes along with Shola Ameobi – Ex Newcastle United Footballer.
Finally I helped pick of the raffle tickets out of the hat.
It was a great honour to be invited along to support a brilliant grassroots event, I also had a chance to catch up with my Ex PE Teacher, Mrs Egdell form Biddick who was a Marshall at the event.
